SYNOPSIS: From the moment Quinn Montgomery sat behind her first snare and cymbal set, she was destined for fame and glory. As Hush Note’s infamous female drummer, she sets the rhythm for the band’s chart-toppings hits. When people tap their feet to their music, it’s to her pulse. Quinn is content to live in a world away from her family and the cage of her youth. Her only regret is leaving Graham Hayes behind without a goodbye. No matter how many sold-out stadiums she plays, no matter how many crowds sing her songs, his voice haunts her when the music stops. When a family tragedy forces her to return home to Montana, she plans to leave the second she’s paid her respects. But seeing Graham again turns her life upside down. As a boy, he wasn’t able to make her stay. As a man, he might be her future. If they can mend their rifts and find solace in the refrains
REVIEW: This was perfect! In true Devney Perry fashion, we got a lot of emotion and depth from the characters creating a story that just pulls at the heartstrings! Quinn has a moment in Lies and Lullabies (book 1 in the Hush Note series) where she kind of comes off like a jerk, and it made me think about who she was as a person and why she was the way she was. It was really great to get her backstory and see all the history with her family and her ex Graham. Plus, we get to see how they interact 10 years after all the drama went down. While she definitely didn’t do everything right given the situation, I think she was really justified in the way she reacted to how she was treated by her family over the years. Especially as a teenager just trying to find herself. Graham’s trajectory from being so angry with Quinn to maybe realizing it’s not all her fault was just so satisfying. When they first see each other again, it is super uncomfortable, but seeing them together as the story progressed and they processed their feelings was really great.
I also really love how well these three bandmates support each other. Jonas, Nix, Quinn are not just a band, but also an awesome family! It’s great that they haven’t dated each other even though it’s two guys and a girl. I think that just adds more to how great of a support system they are for each other. The way Nixon is there for Quinn just made me so in love with him, and I cannot wait to read his story, Muses and Melodies. I would definitely recommend this book.
