****
The last time I saw Kiera Ashdown was the night of the Jingle Balls masquerade ball. My hockey career and my daughter come first. The last thing I expect to discover is that Kiera is my seven-year-old daughter’s teacher. The last thing I expect to learn is that she’s pregnant with my dead best friend’s child. And the last thing I want to admit is that I was the one who made love to Kiera—several times—the night of the ball.Because if she ever found out that I’d lied to her, I could lose her friendship. I could lose so much more…

REVIEW: When I first read this synopsis, I knew I was picking up this book.

↦ Mysterious tryst
↦ Accidental pregnancy
↦ Best friend’s widow
↦ Hockey romance

Seriously, it’s like everything I could want in one book, so I obviously signed up to review it. I really loved Logan’s relationship with his ex-wife and her new husband. It was very healthy, and even though we all know it doesn’t always work out like that, it felt realistic. And it was refreshing to not have the ex-wife be a villain in the story. I also really liked that when Logan was very dedicated to Keira the whole time, even when he’s confused on what they could have together. The friendships were wonderful as well! The women weren’t catty and everyone was kind and supportive. Keira’s friends supported her even when they may not have agreed with her choices. The story was not about people coming in between the two characters, it was really about the characters growth while handling really difficult situations they were found themselves in. Did they always handle it in a good way? Definitely not. I have to be honest and say that Keira was not my favorite heroin, which led me to have a lot of mixed feelings about this book. I know that sometimes we lie in situations where we’re trying to avoid disastrous outcomes, and I think that’s also a plot device that’s used in a lot of romances, but I felt like in this one it went a little too far. I think this is part of the reason why I thought the book was a little too long. Some of the lies could’ve been cut out or Keira could have come clean a little sooner in the story. That being said, it’s more of a personal preference, so while I kind of disliked Keira, I had a feeling that I would be happy at the end of the book. I am glad I kept reading, because I think the way the relationships developed was entertaining and I did like the ending.

Forsaken Trail by Devney Perry

5 STARS!

Release Date: December 29, 2020

SYNOPSIS: Aria Saint-James has planned the perfect getaway: sweatpants, takeout and two weeks alone with her sister and nephew. Nowhere on that list is wearing a low-cut dress and uncomfortable heels to attend a wedding where she knows neither the bride nor the groom. Toss in her nemesis, Brody Carmichael, and her road trip to Arizona is officially a bust. But at least there is champagne. She blames the bubbly for falling into bed with Brody that night. Enemy or no, the billionaire is irresistible in a tux. But after their one-night tryst, Aria has no choice but to cut her vacation short, returning home to escape his devilish smile, vowing never to see Brody again. Except Aria gets a surprise a few weeks later—she’s pregnant. When he learns that she’s carrying his child, Brody offers Aria the chance of a lifetime. The catch? She has to live under his roof until the baby is born. Either they’ll kill each other in nine months. Or discover love buried beneath their hate.

REVIEW: Well, I absolutely loved Aria and Brody. After getting a hint of their dislike for one another in Quarter Miles, I knew Devney Perry was going to give us a great enemies-to-lovers romance! We get this impression that Brody has grown up with everything, while Aria grew up with nothing. Yet Brody was also lacking something that’s so important during childhood. I think that’s what really made this story special to me. Aria and Brody come from such different places, but had fundamental needs not met during their childhood. They both endured trauma on very different levels and that impacted who they were as adults and how they handled the situations that were thrown at them. I think this is why Brody and Clara become such close friends, even when Aria doesn’t get it. He has more in common with them than Aria understands. The way Aria holds herself while playing Brody’s fake date in the beginning, had me falling in love her strength and snark. That scene was so damn satisfying. As the reader, I knew this was the first turning point, that moment where the two enemies realize there is more to the other person than what they thought. To me, that’s the best part of an enemies-to-lovers romance–that moment where the reader knows the characters are figuring out that maybe they don’t actually hate each other as much as they think. That just maybe, they don’t actually know the other person as well as they thought. When the story got messy, you still know that the characters were coming from a good place. Simply put, I just adored them and the journey they went on!

I’ve been curious about Clara and Aria’s story ever since we got introduced to them in this series. I needed to know what happened to them and how that brought them to the junkyard. Finally, I got some answers in this book, and it just adds more to the depth of all of these characters. I just love them so much. There is something about the way they grew up, what they’ve overcome, and how they’ve flourished despite all of the things they had to deal with. The fact that these experiences are still impacting them makes it that much more realistic. The way the negative things impact them, but they still carry on with life and carve out a world to fulfill their own needs. I feel like I have so much to say about this book, because of the overall series theme. All these women that grew up in a junkyard together finding their HEA?! How amazing is that. Every book is touching and has so much depth. I wildly rooting for these characters to overcome the obstacles and find the happiness that they deserve, yet did not get during childhood. They are survivors at their core, and I think that has made me so invested in each and everyone of these characters. I cannot cannot wait for Dotted Lines, when we finally meet Karson, the only guy that was in their group. The Cadillac will finally be back where it’s supposed to be, and I have a feeling that it’s going to be a real emotional ride for Clara.

Not According to Plan by A. M. Madden

Release Date: March 23, 2020

Publisher: Entangled Amara

SYNOPSIS: For one night of my life, I dared to do something reckless. My birthday. A bar. Karaoke. And a man so hot he could melt the sun. Sparks flew. Lust took over. For one night of my life, I felt alive. Then I was back to my “boring” life. Career-driven. Goal-oriented. Always planning ahead. But nothing could have prepared me for the positive pregnancy test. We weren’t that reckless. There goes my “boring” life. And what happens when I tell the father?

REVIEW: I want to preface my review by saying that accidental pregnancy is one of my all time favorite tropes and that is why I picked this one up. It’s also been a while since I really disliked a book, but I found this plot to be over the top. I also sincerely disliked the male character, as he was always making decisions for the female lead. Personally, the ending was not a happy one for me either. The whole story just made me irritated and unhappy. I can say a lot more, but I don’t want to spoil it for anyone, because you may very well be intrigued by this one.

Baby Yours by Kennedy Fox

5 STARS!

Release Date: May 23, 2019

SYNOPSIS: The worst day of my life happened when Brandon died. We had our entire future mapped out.
Careers, marriage, kids—in that order. Then the universe threw a curveball and ended it all.

As I come to terms with everything, I learn I’m carrying his baby. Now I’m living with his roommate, the guy who’s made my life a living hell the past two years. Hunter’s now the one to hold me up when all I want to do is fall.

Knowing my religious parents will never accept the pregnancy out of wedlock, Hunter offers to be my fake husband. While I think he’s gone crazy, it’s the only plan that’ll keep them in my life. So I do whatever it takes to make our relationship believable—kissing, touching, even letting him hold me when we sleep. The lines are so blurred neither of us want to admit we’re no longer pretending.

The guilt of what we’re doing eats me alive as I struggle to deal with my emotions. I push him away, but he pulls me closer, showing me how he’s always felt.

Just as I begin to follow my heart, I learn Hunter’s been keeping secrets.
And I’m left to make the hardest decision of my life…

REVIEW

I don’t even know where to begin. This duet cuddled my heart, grabbed it, squeezed it, tore it out, and then tried to put it back in. A great romance book is a rollercoaster with twists and turns of emotions, and this duet surely delivers. Hunter has that persistent love that I really admire in a male lead. Both of these characters are processing all their emotions through a huge life change, and I love their growth throughout the story. Plus, the HEA is so satisfying and deserved when you finally get it.

Also, you meet Lennon’s sisters and Hunter’s friends in this duet, which you just know are going to be in the other duets. And while the reader will get Lennon and Hunter’s HEA at the end of this duet, let’s just say they’ll also get an OMG moment for the next duet. Which means I am now counting down the days until July when I can read Truly Mine, the next duet!

Baby Mine by Kennedy Fox

5 STARS!!!!

Release Date: April 23, 2019

SYNOPSIS

I saw her first.
Blonde. Gorgeous. Feisty.
I was smitten.

But it didn’t matter because she chose him and he was my best friend and roommate. I’d never be able to compete with that, so I pushed her away instead. It was easy when she lived hours away, and I didn’t have to see her every day, but then she moved in with us.
Now, I’m screwed.

To her singing in the shower every morning, dancing in the kitchen while she makes coffee, and doing yoga in our living room, I can’t stop thinking about her in all the wrong ways. She’s not mine and never will be, but that doesn’t stop me from wanting to push her against a wall and claim her mouth.

She’s constantly on me for making messes, bringing chicks home every weekend, and being a smartass when their PDA gets on my nerves. Considering neither of them know how I feel, it’s not fair for the way I act toward them. I should move out so I can get over her for good; however, the selfish part of me can’t let go.

And then the unthinkable happens…
When my best friend dies in a motorcycle accident, the two of us are left to grieve our loss together. Instead of pushing her away, I pull her closer.

Just as we come to terms with our new reality, she finds out she’s pregnant with his baby.
And I’m left to make the hardest decision of my life.

REVIEW

OMG. OMG. OMG. I need Baby Yours RIGHT NOW. Kennedy Fox took angsty to a-whole-nother level, and I was NOT prepared. I loved this book. I was smitten with the opening scene and was devastated by the kitchen scene. The more I read the more invested I became in Hunter’s happiness. I think the hard part was the fact that I didn’t hate Brandon and Lennon together. In fact, if I wasn’t so invested in Hunter, I would totally be rooting for them in this book. BUT NOPE, Hunter is the book boyfriend and I wanted him to be the happy one.

This story just keeps punching you in the feels though, so don’t worry about that. Seriously, I love the development of the different plot points that all add into the craziness that is this story. There is just the right amount of things going on to keep it interesting and keep you utterly enthralled. This is a duet, so my advice to you is as follows:

  1. Prepare mentally.
  2. Who am I kidding?! There is no preparing.
  3. Buy Baby Mine
  4. Start reading and enjoy the ride
  5. Get to the ending
  6. FREAK OUT
  7. SCREAM
  8. Possibly cry?
  9. Flail with me
  10. Read Forever Mine
  11. Feel a tiny, tiny bit of closure
  12. Count down the days until Baby Yours releases: May 23rd.

Your very own 12-step program.

Anyway, I’m guessing you can tell I loved this book and would give it all the damn stars! I cannot wait for Baby Yours!
