Dotted Lines by Devney Perry

5 STARS

Release Date: March 2, 2021

SYNOPSIS: Clara Saint-James is completing a journey started by an old friend. She’ll return a Cadillac to California, a place she’s avoided for more than a decade. But it’s time for closure and to put old ghosts to rest. And it’s time to find out if the feelings she’s cherished for the boy from her past are just fanciful memories–or if there’s a chance they are real. Timing was never on her side, especially when it came to Karson Avery. The two of them lived in a junkyard as runaway teens, and though she wanted more than his friendship, he always belonged to another–until that one night when he was hers. When Clara finds Karson living in a small, coastal town, she’s not surprised the beautiful boy from her past grew into a stunning man. His smile is as captivating as ever. His eyes have the same roguish glint. But timing is still working against her. Clara must decide how far she’s willing to go to battle for Karson’s heart. Or if it’s time to let him go and surrender to the dotted lines that have always kept them apart.

Dotted Lines is the last conclusion to the AMAZING Runaway Series!

REVIEW: WOW! What a perfect end to a touching series that will always hold a special place in my heart. I don’t have words to accurately describe how much I love this series. It seriously touched something in my soul. I loved every story and each characters connection to one another. They are all survivors at their core, and I think that has made me so invested in each and everyone of these characters. Getting all the women’s stories has been such a joy, and it had left me with a growing curiosity about Karson throughout each book. Who was the boy that lived with all of them in the Junkyard. What was his story? Well, finally getting it was beyond statisfying. I didn’t know how I’d feel about Clara’s crush with the history between Karson and Londyn, but Devney Perry did such a wonderful job of introducing Karson and Clara’s past story, I was all in. It was so endearing and even though it didn’t work out when Clara turned 18, I was definitely rooting for their second chance.

Clara is such a great character! I enjoyed seeing her in Aria’s story, Forsaken Trail, including her friendship with Brody. She’s been through so much and is a wonderful single mom. Her story definitely pulls at the heart strings and I cried, a lot. Her struggles with the past and present hit deep and made me tear up. She is so strong because she’s had to be ever since her parent died. I just admire her as a character. Getting Karson’s backstory and then his thought process of why he didn’t go with Aria when they left the junkyard, was both heartbreaking and endearing. I just wanted these two together so bad!

AND THAT EPILOGUE! Dear lord, I was crying all the happy tears. I was smiling with tears streaming down my face and I loved every minute of it. I sincerely recommend this entire series and I will definitely be doing a reread at some point.

Return to Us by Corinne Michaels

5 STARS

Release Date: February 23, 2021

SYNOPSIS: At eighteen, I walked away from Willow Creek Valley for good. I was young, scared, and stupid, and it cost me the love of my life—Grayson Parkerson. Fourteen years later, a crash sends me back home to recover. Back to where we met, fell in love, and planned a future. The one he’s now living as a single dad to his daughter. Working at The Park Inn together gives us a chance to reconnect, and seeing him with his little girl makes me long for the days when he was mine. One look in his gorgeous blue-green eyes, and it’s like I never left. One kiss, and my world is upside down. One night together, and I know without a doubt, in his arms is where I belong. I’m not the girl I was—intimidated by his wealthy family and desperate to escape our small town. I can imagine a new life for us here. But he’s learned to guard his heart, and trust won’t come easily. How can I convince him to give first love a second chance?

From New York Times Bestselling author Corinne Michaels comes a new second chance standalone love story.

REVIEW: This one is going to hit you right in the feels. I’m obsessed.

Corinne Michaels always does a really great Second Chance Romance and this one was no different! Grayson and Jessica had such a great back story and I love that you could feel their love for each other throughout the whole book. Even when there are issues, I could still feel they’re strong connection and chemistry. All of this made them a couple I was completely invested in.

Grayson’s relationship with his daughter Amelia was absolutely adorable. Amelia is too cute and brings so much to the story! The interactions between Amelia with almost anyone were heartwarming–even the friends like Jack and her aunt Stella, just made me smile.

I also really love Jessica and Jacob Arrowood’s relationship that was solidified from the traumatic experience they share in the beginning of the book. I think it’s really cool when the author brings characters from her other books as side characters, because we get to see those characters we loved in a whole new setting. A theme I really appreciate in books is portraying therapy in a good light, because I personally believe therapy is an amazing tool. The therapist in this book was perfect! She asked great probing questions that I think Jessica needed to hear. I enjoyed how Jessica talked about therapy–she hated it, but loved it at the same time. Her Traumatic Brain Injury added so much to her as a character, and watching her heal was amazing.

Overall this book was the perfect journey with some drama, lots of love, and a perfectly happy ending! I’m really excited to see where this series goes with the rest of the siblings, and the fallout from what’s going to happen with their family and their parents.

Thank you so much to Corinne Michaels and Valentine PR for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!

The Architect by Nikki Sloan

5 STARS

Release Date: February 23, 2021

SYNOPSIS: On the surface, my new boyfriend is a stiff, buttoned-up architect. He plans every detail of his life while carefully maintaining the walls he’s built around his heart. But when the biggest project of his career pulls him away, Clay’s solution is both temporary and unconventional. It even comes with a name—Travis. This handsome stranger is sweet and thoughtful. He’s only meant to be a stand-in, to fulfill my needs under Clay’s watchful direction, yet these two men couldn’t be more different. The one thing they share? Well, I guess that would be me. One gets off on my pain, the other on my pleasure, and it awakens a desire none of us knew existed. But it can’t last.

Eventually I’ll have to choose.
And it’s going to destroy us all.

This is Book 3 in the Nashville Neighborhood Series (Age-Gap Romances)

REVIEW: *Fans self* Yes, I’m gonna need a tall glass of water after this deliciously steamy read. I mean the story has so much sex from right off the bat that you better have your poker face ready if reading this one in public. Nikki Sloane always writes really hot scenes between the characters but this one was on a-whole-nother level compared to the other Nashville Neighborhood books. Similar to the other books, the relationship was definitely a little taboo compared to what we typically see out in society. The great thing is that Nikki Sloan is wonderful at showing how much the characters care about each other and what the relationships really are about. I loved seeing the growth of the relationships, as well as how the characters not going to be put in a box or labeled. They go after what they want and what makes them happy. Whenever I think about books like this, I think about how people might be scandalized by the taboo part. And it’s funny, because when I read books like this I might think in passing “that probably wouldn’t work for me” but what I’m really focused on is the relationship itself. And when you actually look at the support the characters give each other their relationship is better than a lot of the stereotypical heteronormative relationships that you see going on in our society. That’s what makes this romance a great romance–the characters have genuine love for each other and what else do you want in a romance book? This was by far my favorite of the series!

The Opposite of Falling by Jillian Liota

This is Book 2
in the Cedar Point series!

4 STARS

Release Date: October 5, 2020

SYNOPSIS: BRIAR MITCHELL is home in Cedar Point – single, broke and unemployed. Back in the town she tried so hard not to get stuck in. A job at the local grocery will have to do until she figures out what’s next, even if it means working for her teenage crush. Not that he noticed her back then.
ANDY MARSHALL has always loved the small town life. Things might be rough at the moment – the family business is struggling and his dad’s health has taken a turn – but he’s trudging forward. What he doesn’t see coming is the attraction he feels towards his newest employee.

Choosing to explore their instant chemistry, Briar and Andy embark on a no-strings ride they hope will provide a few things they each desperately need. Sweet friendship, sexy fun, and a chance to escape from a life that isn’t going according to plan. But in the face of a town disaster, they start to realize that maybe there’s something more between them. Something with a depth they weren’t expecting. Something that feels a lot like falling in love.

Review: This one was definitely cute! I think that seeing Briar’s growth throughout the book was really satisfying. It was interesting because after I got a little glimpse of Andy in Book 1, The Trouble with Wanting, I didn’t really know how to feel about him as a character. Then his first impression in this book isn’t the greatest either. Luckily, as I got to know him as a reader throughout the book, I liked him more and more. The situations that pushed Andy and Briar both to grow individually, as well as a couple, really made this a great read. This series has been so much fun and I’ve been left with a smile at the end of each book! There’s something really nice about the lack of big unnecessary drama that happens in a lot of romance books. The characters go through things, there’s difficult times and misunderstandings, and they don’t always handle everything in the best way, but it’s very human and not overly dramatic. It’s something that I really enjoy about Jillian Leota‘s writing in general. Plus, there tends to be an on-going message that going to therapy is normal (spoiler alert: it totally is). I love it. I can’t wait to find out what happens with the rest of the Mitchell family in The Cedar Point Series!

Like You Want It by Jillian Liota

5 STARS!!!

Release Date: March 25, 2019

SYNOPSIS: “Sometimes, wanting someone just isn’t enough.” I don’t want to believe those words. Because I’ve never fallen for someone like Fin Callaghan. And I can’t imagine that this feeling isn’t enough.

CARLY – To say my first interaction with Fin leaves much to be desired is an understatement. He infuriates me, barely speaks, and glares at me all the time. Not to mention he thinks I’m a mess. It isn’t in my plans to start to like him. To fall for him. To want something more. But Fin’s past is filled with a pain that makes any kind of us impossible. He can’t seem to figure out what he wants, and truthfully, neither can I. All I know is that I want more than what he’s willing to give.

FIN – All I should be focusing on is my family as we try to sort through the wounds left by our past mistakes. I have more than enough on my plate, have sacrificed too much to fracture my focus. I shouldn’t allow a woman to get in the way. Especially one like Carly Palmer. She’s different. Wild. A bright burst of color in my world of black and white. Before I know it, she’s all that I want. All I can think about. But it doesn’t matter. I’ve been through betrayal that still singes my skin, eats at my soul. I won’t allow it to happen again.

Like You Want It is the second book in the
Like You series and is a standalone novel.

REVIEW: This was a story that didn’t know I needed. This story resonated with me Down in my soul. I laughed, I cried, and I highlighted so many damn quotes. The characters we’re messy and flawed in very realistic ways, and it was such a joy to go on the journey with them as they grew through what they were going through.

Carly is one of those people you might find kind of annoying, but you also wish you could be her. Her optimism is like the sun, and she takes the time to really think about the whole picture. I love her friendship with Susie, and how Carly builds her up and supports her. Carly is really good about being selfless. Her friend Dina is hilarious and brash, and I’d love to get to know her more.

That brings me to send Fin, who I want to call something else, but don’t want to give it away. Just wait until you hear Carley’s nicknames. Fin is dark and broody and definitely flawed, but his journey of growth in the story is so fulfilling. It was so satisfying to see the different sides of him show up throughout the story. With his and Susie’s family, there are issues but there is so much love and loyalty. The family dynamics for both characters were so realistic and really added to the story.

I think what made this book really impactful, is all of the wise words throughout the story. There is an open communication portrayed in a very realistic way, where characters struggle to have it, but eventually get to it. The relationships just become so healthy, and it really is wonderful to see that depicted in a book. The positive portrayal of therapy in this book is like a breath of fresh air. The therapist has this magnificent line when someone thinks therapy isn’t going to work for them—it wasn’t therapy is good for everyone and I won’t spoil for you because it’s so good, but it just made me say, “YES, that right there, YES!”

This story has so much damn heart, and I’d definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a romance with ALL THE FEELS.

Thank you so much to Jillian Liota for the review copy in exchange for an honest review.

Only One Night By Natasha Madison

Book 3 is Manning’s Story
in the Only One series!

5 STARS

Release Date: January 5, 2021

SYNOPSIS: Manning – As captain of the Dallas Oilers, I was their leader on and off the ice. From the outside, it looked like I had the perfect life. I didn’t. I was married to a woman who refused to give me a divorce. All she wanted was the status title, and all I wanted was to be set free. It was supposed to be just another event, except it took a turn I didn’t see coming.

Evelyn – Attending my best friend’s bachelorette party isn’t something I was looking forward to.
But it’s strange what a couple of glasses of wine will do. It was one night, and I thought I would never see him again. Especially not coming face-to-face with him and his wife while picking up my nephew from hockey practice. All it takes is one kiss, one touch, one chance, and only one night.

Review: I have been looking forward to Manning’s story since readers started getting hints about him and his crazy wife in previous books! It did not disappoint. The captin of the hockey team that doesn’t have any social media and hates his wife? I mean, what the hell is going on with this guy?? I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know more about him and the situation he was in. Seeing how he handled everything throughout the story, was frustrating, but also made me appreciate him as a male character as the story went on. Evelyn is put in such a difficult spot, and watching her navigate all of it made me really like her as a character as well. She is always trying to do the right thing, but most of the time none of the choices are good ones. I think I just really liked Manning and Evelyn together, so I was rooting for them to get their happy ending. I’m pretty freakin’ excited about the next book Only One Touch!

A Co-Worker’s Crush By Piper Rayne

The final book
in the Rooftop Crew series!

5 STARS

Release Date: January 5, 2021

SYNOPSIS: Three tattoo guns. Five motorcycle tires. Countless T-shirts. That’s what I lost before I realized nothing good comes from dating my co-workers.  Usually, I don’t have much self-control. So, the fact that Frankie Grant is a hot, talented tattoo artist means it’s a damn miracle she hasn’t already been in my bed. But nothing can happen between us because Frankie comes with Jolie, her young daughter, and a crap load of baggage from her ex. And those are two things I never entertain. Anyone who knows me—the screwed up foster kid from the wrong side of the tracks—knows I’m not the guy you take home to meet your parents, let alone your kid. But I also know what it’s like not to have parents, so things get complicated when Jolie asks me to be her daddy. I might as well just slash my own tires now.

Review: What a perfect ending to the Rooftop Crew series. When readers first got a glimpse of Jax in the Rival Roomies, which happens to be one of my favorites, he almost stole the show from Rian and Dylan! I just knew his HEA was going to be a good story. It was really amazing to see him and Frankie during this one, especially because of the build up in previous books. There’s something really heartwarming about people that have been through really difficult times finding support and care from the people around them. The whole Rooftop Crew takes Frankie and Jolie in, just like they did with Jax when he first appeared on the scene. It’s just a really great group of friends that’s so supporting and loving. I think that is what makes this whole series! The whole crew is just so much fun–even when they mess up, they’re all trying to support each other and push each other in the best way.

One thing I really appreciated about this book specifically is that although both characters have definitely dealt with some trauma, and it’s impacted who they are as adults, there wasn’t a huge overdramatic scene. A lot of times in these types of books, I’m waiting for some huge ridiculous misunderstanding that is going to make me irritated, but that really didn’t happen with this one. It was the perfect amount of mistakes and growth for each character. They’re both just navigating what life has thrown at them, and when things happens towards the ends with Jax, it’s very realistic. The way he handles it all, I admired it, and that’s what makes me really happy. The lack of super-over-the-top drama is what made the story so much better it. It was just very true to the characters and how they’ve grown.

If you can’t tell I’ve absolutely love this series! I tend to love Piper Rayne books in general, but this series just got me! I think it’s just the support that the group offers each other that really won me over. I’m definitely looking forward to Piper Rayne’s Hockey Hotties series and I’m pretty sure we met one of the characters in this book–Frankie‘s cousin Aiden, but we shall see!

Second Dive by Jasmine Miller

4.5 STARS

Release Date: December 10, 2020

SYNOPSIS: Noah Winters was my heart’s desire, the boy I loved desperately and had hoped to spend my future with. Until our plans were derailed and life took us in completely different directions. When our fate changed, and our paths crossed again, nothing prepared me for the punch straight to the heart when I saw him . . . or his anger and bitterness. He was no longer the boy I once knew, but an accomplished Olympic swimmer with life goals that no longer aligned with mine. All because I lied.
But sometimes, hiding the truth was necessary, especially when it freed someone you loved to reach their aspirations and dreams. It’s said that time heals all wounds, but what I found was that it can also create an enemy. That meant I had a choice. Apologize to Noah, and possibly let him into my heart again . . . or allow him to live his life without knowing why I walked away. Without knowing that I never actually wanted to leave.

REVIEW: I’ve been enjoying this series, and it definitely has its twists and turns, but WOW, I was not ready for this one. The emotions are real and I didn’t see it coming. And when I say emotions, I mean I felt multiple scenes deep in my bones. Chloe was a wonderful female character, and so very inspirational. Noah is so rough and broody in the beginning, so seeing him open up was so fulfilling. And the chemistry between theses two was HOT. I mean, this book just gave me a spectrum of emotions and I was here for it. I would definitely recommend this series.

Stay for Me by Corinne Michaels

4.5 STARS

Release Date: December 8, 2020

SYNOPSIS: Hollywood taught me everything I know about relationships–except how to be in one. As an actor, I became an expert at faking it. Faking that I wasn’t affected by my childhood. Faking that I was okay. Faking that I knew how to save the day, the girl, the whole damn world. But I’ve always known the truth–I’m no one’s hero. Until I’m forced to move back to Sugarloaf for six months, and Brenna Allen offers me a chance to prove otherwise. She’s everything I never knew I wanted, but can’t have. Her broken heart, perfect face, and adorable children turn my world upside down. Instead of preparing for my next leading role, I’m directing a middle school play. All to make her smile. The more time I spend here, the more I want to stay. Build a life in this town that I swore I’d leave–for her. But when the world comes crashing down around us, I’m forced to decide if staying for her is the right choice or if leaving is better for the woman I love.

REVIEW: Wow. This series was a wild ride and I am so glad I was on it! The Arrowood Brothers are absolutely delicious with so much depth from everything they have experienced. As per usual, Corinne Michaels broke me a little with these characters. Brenna’s backstory just gripped my heart. I wanted Jacob and Brenna to get their HEA so badly! And Sebastian added so much to the story. I would definitely recommend this one. I don’t want to spoil anything, but you should definitely read this one if you are looking for an angsty story, with sweet moments and all the feels!

Thank you to Corinne Michaels and Valentine PR for the eARC in exchange for an honest review!

The Revenge Pact by Ilsa Madden-Mills

ALL THE DAMN STARS!

Release Date: December 3, 2020

SYNOPSIS: River Tate is a god on campus. The king of football. A tattooed bad boy with gunmetal eyes that see right through you. The only chink in his armor is her, the girl he pretends doesn’t exist, the forbidden one with the shy smile and lavender hair.

Anastasia Bailey is a nobody. The queen of nothing. An outsider with the face of an angel and a body made for sin. The only chink in her armor is him, her boyfriend’s frat brother, the football player who hates her.  But when Anastasia’s life crashes down, River’s the one who sweeps in and picks up the pieces. Torn between loyalty, lies, and secrets, he battles the temptation to take everything from her when they make their revenge pact. He can’t tell her no. Because revenge (or love) is sweet, and once you get a taste, the craving never ends.

The Revenge Pact kicks off an all-new series, The Kings of Football, with an enemies to lovers standalone romance from Wall Street Journal bestselling author Ilsa Madden-Mills, coming December 3rd!

REVIEW: I honestly cannot put into words what I felt about this book, it was that amazing. I’m an avid Ilsa Madden-Mills fan, but this one absolutely blew me away. I stayed up into the morning hours on a work night to finish it (I love sleep so damn much, so this is kind of a big of a deal. haha). I was so enraptured by these characters. I needed to know how they figured it all out. I needed to see them get the HEA I knew they deserved. Seriously, I was obsessed with them. Anastasia is just her own person and I love it. I wish I could be friends with her. And then there is River. River is at the top of my ever growing book boyfriend list, that’s for sure. The depth and layers there, damn. AND let’s not forget about the chemistry *fans self* it is burning hot. I want to say so much more, but I also don’t want to spoil it for anyone. So I’m here if you want to talk all the details (seriously hit me up on Bookstagram @ireadergosum)! I sincerely hope you read this one and fall madly in love with the characters like I did!!
