Hard Love by Sara Ney

5 STARS!!!

Release Date: November 19, 2020

SYNOPSIS: “HARD TO LOVE.” Hard head. Bad attitude. Terrible boyfriend. That’s what my exes have said about me—but I wasn’t serious about any of them, so what do I care what rumors they spread? What I need is to be left alone; by the press, by the paparazzi, and by women. Too bad I’m about to be surrounded by them for the weekend. My obnoxious, matchmaking brother is getting married, and he’s doing his damndest to find me a wedding date…
“HARD TO FIND.” That’s what they say about good men—they’re hard to find. Not that when I find one, I’ll be the type he’s looking for; too nice, too ordinary, too boring. My cousin is getting married, and her fiancé insists on throwing me at his brother. Cold, uncaring professional football player Tripp Wallace would never look twice at a woman like me. Too bad for both of us, I was wrong…

REVIEW: This was so different, but in a really good way! I had no idea what the characters were going to say, what they were going to do, how they were going to come together, how feelings were going to develop between them. Tripp was a fascinating male lead. I mean I love the Wallace family in general, they’re so inviting yes, theres always a ton of bickering between then all–it comes from a place of love. They definitely all have different personalities and Tripp and Trace are so very different. Tripp was very reminiscent of someone on the spectrum. He kind of says whatever he’s thinking without the realization that there are social niceties that we adhere to in order to not hurt other peoples feelings. This is honestly my favorite type person, as long as I have some heads up. Haha.

Chandler is also interesting because she’s in a similar position to Hollis when it comes to the family obligations. Although it was a little less delved into, other than knowing that she’s having difficulty finding her dream job, because the relationship between these characters ruled the story in the best way. I do like how both characters seem to kind of find themselves by interacting with each other. We get to witness better sides of both of them as they continue to get to know each other and develop a relationship. I just really enjoyed this one! Also, the little preview of True Wallace at the end was my cat nip, and I am so freaking excited for the next book, Hard Luck!!

I Promise You by Ilsa Madden-Mills

5 STARS!

Release Date: October 12, 2020

SYNOPSIS:
Dillon McQueen: Babe. I promise. You want me.
Serena Jensen: Um, who are you?
There’s a legend at Waylon University: the first girl you kiss freshman year at the bonfire party is the one you’ll never forget. She’ll crawl under your skin and never leave. She’ll spark a passion so fierce you’ll burn the world down to possess her. You might even put a ring on it. As in all things with fate, timing is everything. That kiss can go horribly wrong. She might run in the opposite direction. And boy, did Serena run. Dillon is Waylon’s hotshot quarterback with something to prove. All he wants is to graduate and make it to the NFL. What he doesn’t need is to finally meet the mystery girl he kissed at the bonfire freshman year. Isn’t it enough that she’s haunted his dreams for more than a thousand nights? Fate laughs in his face when he runs into the quirky girl at the Piggly Wiggly. Surrounded by his entourage, he’s got all the Oreos in his cart; she gets revenge by buying every six-pack of his favorite beer. Obviously, that legend is a curse. She’s not his type and hates him. Worst of all, how can she not remember him when she left a Serena-shaped hole in his heart for the past three years? So why can’t he stop trying to win her? Will this quarterback score the girl or make the biggest fumble of his life?

REVIEW: Okay, I seriously love the legend of the bonfire kiss at Wayland College. It’s such a cute idea and Ilsa Madden-Mills’ writing style is perfect for it. She hasn’t made it easy for each man in this series to win the one they’re supposed to be with. Dillon may be one of my favorites so far! Seriously, I just love him so much. The first scene at the bonfire where we meet Dillon was where I fell head over heels in love with him. Then we see him again in leather pants and with an entourage of women, I was kind of questioning if it was even the same guy. It definitely gets interesting, and I really enjoyed the journey that Dillon and Serena went on together in this book. I think they both had a lot of growth around things that were weighing them down from their past, which only added to the great way they came together. Serena was also amazing with the entourage of girls, which I appreciated!

Something I really appreciate about Ilsa Madden-Mills’ books is that the side characters really bring a lot to the story too! It’s so fun to see characters from previous books. And Serena’s family is amazing! Between her little sister Rommie and her grandma, I was laughing a lot. Her grandma–aka Nana–is a freaking riot and a perfect character to add some comedic relief. Plus, the boy escaping out of her sister’s window that gets caught by Serena. Seriously, her family was like their own part of the story and they added so much. Obviously I really loved this one and I would definitely recommend it!

The Wedding Date Disaster by Avery Flynn

4.5 STARS!

Release Date: August 25, 2020

SYNOPSIS: Hadley Donavan can’t believe she has to go home to Nebraska for her sister’s wedding. She’s gonna need a wingman and a whole lot of vodka for this level of family interaction. At least her bestie agreed he’d man up and help. But then instead of her best friend, his evil twin strolls out of the airport. If you looked up doesn’t-deserve-to-be-that-confident, way-too-hot-for-his-own-good billionaire in the dictionary, you’d find a picture of Will Holt. He’s awful. Horrible. The worst―even if his butt looks phenomenal in those jeans. Ten times worse? Hadley’s buffer was supposed to be there to keep her away from the million and one family events. But Satan’s spawn just grins and signs them up for every. Single. Thing.

Fine. “Cutthroat” Scrabble? She’s in. She can’t wait to take this guy down a notch. But somewhere between Pictionary and the teasing glint in his eyes, their bickering starts to feel like more than just a game…

REVIEW: The emotion and comedy in Avery Flynn’s books, always have me picking them up as soon as I can get my hands on them, and this was no different. This was classic Avery Flynn, which means I laughed while loving every minute of this story. Will is an idiot. Yup, I said it. Don’t worry, he learns some lessons during this story that make him much more lovable! You’ll hear me say it in review, after review of books I enjoy, but the backstory of characters and how that impacts their actions can make or break a book for me. This book explores how past trauma impacts the characters’ current choices and assumptions they make in different situations. These two definitely have some family dynamics playing a big part in their lives, but I loved how the characters were confronted with the impact of their actions. And seriously, Hadley’s family is so much fun, I hope they appear somewhere else (maybe her sister and Will’s twin, perhaps?). We shall see! I definitely loved this one!

EXCERPT

Will. It’s good to have you here for this special occasion.”

“Thanks for having me, and please let me know what I can do to help.” The polite words came out almost as a reflex, because the answer was always no when it came to big events that were always catered and planned by professionals.

“Don’t suppose you can cook?” Sharon asked.

Considering she probably didn’t want her entire family slightly poisoned by undercooked chicken, there was only one answer he could give. “No, but I can wash dishes like you wouldn’t believe.”

“Good.” She gave him a real smile this time that had the corners of her eyes crinkling. “You’ve got a job.”

As everyone started to walk inside, Hadley pulled him back half a step. “Do you even know how to wash dishes?”

“I can load a dishwasher.” Occasionally he even did it. Usually, though, the cleaning crew took care of all that at his Harbor City penthouse.

“But have you ever actually done that?” She took a step closer, looking up at him with a knowing little smirk—the one that told him she knew just how full of shit he was. “Have you ever washed dishes by hand?”

“I’m not a complete spoiled jerk,” he said, sounding exactly like one even to his own ears.

She just lifted an eyebrow.

God, she was pushy—something that should have been annoying. Really, it was annoying. Completely. Utterly. Without a doubt. That was the only reason why he couldn’t drag his attention away from that smart mouth of hers because he couldn’t believe what words came out of it.

“Okay, fine.” He closed the distance between them, using the advantage of his height to look down at her. “No. I haven’t, but I’m sure I won’t have a problem excelling at it just like I do every- thing else.”

“Oh really?” she asked, not giving an inch. “I suppose you can also excel at all the ranching chores, like help check the fencing and gather eggs and muck the stalls, too.”

“Of course,” he said, his mouth running without his brain because all he could think about was how badly he wanted to kiss that knowing grin off her face right now. “By the end of the week, your relatives will be thinking of me like I’m just another cowboy in the family. They’re gonna love me.”

Hadley scoffed. “No. Fucking. Way.”

“Wanna bet?”

He had no idea why he was doing this. Proving

her wrong about his abilities to wash dishes or muck fences or mend stalls or be a beloved member of her family wasn’t on his agenda. He was here for one reason: to convince her to take her gold-digger hooks out of his brother. She was priming Web, softening him up for the taking. He’d seen it before—lived it—and the pattern was the same as what Mia had done to him. Start with friendship, add in some damsel-in-distress bullshit like her I-really-need-you-to-go-to-my-sister’s- wedding ploy, and then go in for the multimillion- dollar kill.

“So do we have a bet or not?” he asked.

“Bet on what?” she asked as she pantomimed pulling finger guns from a holster on each side of her round hips and shooting them into the air like a trick shot. “That you can become a rootin’ tootin’ city slicker cowboy much beloved by my family in a week? It’ll never happen.”

Oh, it was definitely happening now. Winning was his specialty. There was no way he’d lose to her. “If you lose, you leave my brother alone. If I lose—which isn’t going to happen—I’ll never mention you being a gold digger again, and I’ll get out from between you and my brother.”

Hadley released a dramatic sigh and pressed the back of her hand to her forehead. “Oh no, all my plans to marry a billionaire are in jeopardy.”

Such a smart-ass.

Meet Avery

USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling romance author Avery Flynn has three slightly-wild children, loves a hockey-addicted husband and is desperately hoping someone invents the coffee IV drip.
She fell in love with romance while reading Johanna Lindsey’s Mallory books. It wasn’t long before Avery had read through all the romance offerings at her local library. Needing a romance fix, she turned to Harlequin’s four books a month home delivery service to ease the withdrawal symptoms. That worked for a short time, but it wasn’t long before the local book stores’ staffs knew her by name. Avery was a reader before she was a writer and hopes to always be both. She loves to write about smartass alpha heroes who are as good with a quip as they are with their ahem other God-given talents. Her heroines are feisty, fierce and fantastic. Brainy and brave, these ladies know how to stand on their own two feet and knock the bad guys off theirs.

Hard Fall by Sara Ney

5 STARS? ALL THE STARS!!!

Release Date: August 18, 2020

SYNOPSIS: “Hard Fall” That’s what my mom is always saying: “The bigger you are, the harder you fall.” She’s talking about love—I’ve never been in it myself, but that doesn’t stop me from secretly matchmaking for my friends. Who would suspect me, a world class athlete, of meddling in other people’s love lives? I love Love, especially when it’s not me who’s doing the falling…
“No Thanks.” That’s what Hollis Westbrooke said when I asked her on a date. Well, propositioned her, actually—but it was all a big joke; one she doesn’t think is funny. My stomach is in knots since I might actually like this girl so the joke is on me. Hollis’s father is my boss—and she doesn’t date players. The bigger they are, the harder they fall—especially when biggest player is me.

REVIEW: I knew Trace was going to be great, but WOW Sara Ney, just wow. Trace is everything. He’s so obnoxious, but as you get to know him it becomes so endearing. Sara Ney is so good at writing obnoxious characters that are hiding a heart of gold. Something I love about this series is that addresses the deeper emotions and whys beneath the stereotype—the downsides to being an athlete or having a lot of money. It just reminds the reader that there is more to each person that what meets the eye. I really appreciate that.

Okay, back to Trace. Meh definitely moved up my book boyfriend list. He will make you laugh and make you swoon! He’s just perfect for Hollis. She has some great qualities too. Working to support herself despite her family money and legacy in baseball. Her job as a book editor brings up some reader topics that made me as a reader feel at home. And just wait until you hear about Trace and books, swoony. I could possibly go on and on about this one, but I don’t want to give too much away. Let’s just say, I LOVED IT, and you need this book in your life right now!

Loud Mouth by Avery Flynn

5 STARS!

Release Date: June 22, 2020

SYNOPSIS: I never meant to say a word, not one single word. But I did. Now because of something I leaked—without even realizing it—I’ve inadvertently broken up one of the Ice Knights’ most legendary bromances. And worse—I’ve kicked hockey star Ian Petrov’s grumpy level to insane levels of grump.

And what could make it worse? How about the two of us being trapped together in a remote cabin after a massive blizzard. Neither of us can leave. Just us, the snow, his resentment, and OMG sexual tension so thick it would take a snowplow to break through it.

I’ve got to get out of here before I do something even dumber than I’ve already done and kiss the sexy with his misplaced anger and perfect pecs. That would be the worst, the absolute worst. But… would it be terrible if we gave in? Just a little? It’s not like we’re ever going to have to spend time together again.

Until the next morning when we’re told we have to play chummy for the press until this news cycle blows over.

F.M.L.

REVIEW: THIS SERIES! Seriously, the first book, Parental Guidance, just blew my mind and made me laugh until I cried. It was one of my favorite books of 2019. Then came Awk-Weird and I knew this series was going to be one of my favorites. I was completely right.

Avery Flynn has done it again with Loud Mouth. The banter and humor of her writing are absolutely the best. She takes serious life events, then adds humor and emotion in a way that sucks me right in. I loved the broody, moody Ian with all his faults. I loved Shelby’s mix of strength and vulnerability. I loved the forced proximity of a cabin and fixing Ian’s imagine with his half-brother. There were multiple misunderstandings that hurt my heart, made me laugh, and just gave the story depth! The best part is I didn’t see it coming when the cabin time came to an end. Seriously, Avery Flynn manages to surprise me, break my heart, make me laugh, and then patch my heart back to new with a HEA. I loved this book and I hope you do too!

SYNOPSIS

All I want is to play hockey on the Ice Knights, instead, I’m in a viral video for all the wrong reasons and my mom—yes, my mom—has taken over my dating apps. Then, when I think it can’t get any worse, the fates deliver Zara Ambrose, a five-feet-nothing redhead with more freckles than inches and who’d rather be anywhere other than on a date with me.

Now a bet with her friends and my PR nightmare have us both stuck in this go-on-five-dates-with-the-same-person hell situation. But if we band together, we can get the whole thing over with and go on with our lives. It’s perfect! No feelings. No future. No fuc— *ahem* fun. No naked fun.

What could go wrong? Nothing—as long as I remember the rules. Don’t notice the way she looks in a dress. Don’t react when she does that little shivery sigh thing whenever we touch. Don’t think about the fact that she’s never had a toe-curling orgasm that wasn’t self-delivered and just how badly I want to change that.

Five dates—that’s it—and then we go our separate ways. At least, that was the plan..

REVIEW

Okay, I’m going to be real honest here. A hockey player having to fix his image, a dating app with parent involvement, and two adults that don’t even want to be on the app? I. AM. HERE. FOR. IT. Then I got to the female lead and PUMP THE BREAKS, a miniature artisan. Um what? How was I going to get invested in this randomness? Then all of a sudden I was half way through this book wanting to be friends with Zara, and completely and utterly invested in both her and Caleb. Avery Flynn’s hilarious writing pulled me all the way in and I COULD NOT PUT THIS DOWN.

I was cry-laughing at Zara’s Dad’s antics when they were first being interviewed on the morning show. I loved it. This is a rom-com at its finest. Not only was I laughing, but I was also feeling the emotions of the characters. I cannot say enough about this book, and I’m so excited for it to be out in the world for everyone to enjoy!
