Pushing You Away by Kennedy Fox

4 STARS!

Release Date: February 16, 2021

SYNOPSIS: I’ve been in love with my best friend Katie Walker for as long as I can remember. We may have shared our deepest, darkest secrets but that one I’ve kept to myself. Before I got the courage to confess my true feelings, my cousin Gabe moved to town and swept Katie off her feet. I should’ve admitted how I felt but I couldn’t—especially once they got married.
When I caught Gabe cheating on his pregnant wife, I snapped. A deadly fight erupted and before I could comprehend what happened, I was charged with his murder and sent to prison. The day I’m released, I go straight to Katie’s house. But after pushing her away for a decade while I was behind bars—she slams the door in my face—wanting nothing to do with me. While she’s determined to pretend I don’t exist, this time I’m not going anywhere.

PUSHING YOU AWAY is a slow burn, angsty friends to lovers romance with lots of small-town, Southern drama.
This is book 1 in the Noah & Katie duet and must be read in order.

IF YOU LOVE:
✔️Childhood friends… to enemies…to more?
✔️Single parent
✔️Small-town drama
✔️Suspense
✔️Hero redemption

REVIEW: As per usual, I NEED book 2 right this minute. Luckily, Kennedy Fox never makes us wait long. Book 2: Holding You Close comes out on March 16th. Okay, back to this book. I love Noah. I have been so curious about both Katie and Noah since we get hints about their situation during Tyler and Gemma’s Duet. They sure do have a lot of cards stacked against them with what has happened in the past! And then there’s the current drama bringing that romantic suspense aspect into the picture. In true Kennedy Fox fashion, they gave us a ton of little details within that damn cliffhanger they leave us with. I am picking up what is going on with this one and I am looking forward to seeing how it unfolds and all the details come together. I’m definitely rooting for these two!

The Best of Us by Kennedy Fox

4.5 STARS!

Release Date: December 1, 2020

SYNOPSIS: What happens when the biggest blizzard of the year hits and you’re trapped in a cabin with your best friend’s brother? You take every opportunity to spend time together and make him fall in love with you.

The Best of Us is a best friend’s brother, opposites attract, and snowed-in together standalone romance. The second book of the Love in Isolation Series.

REVIEW: I’ve been looking forward to this one since reading The Two of Us, which I absolutely adored! While that one took place during the pandemic, this one takes place afterward when a vaccine is available. I think what I like about these books is the impact of a pandemic is very realistically portrayed–which I think we can all connect to right now. Ryan was such an interesting character and not what I was expecting after meeting his sister Cami in book 1. Ryan is a doctor and worked during the pandemic. That and his wealthy family impact who he is and how he’s coping during this book. Kendall handles what Ryan throws at her pretty well, even though she’s obviously had a thing for him for a long time. This was such a journey for these two, with lots and lots of steamy moments. They are definitely NOT lacking chemistry! It was fun to see little bits of Cami and Eli as well. I’m excited to see what comes next in this series.

Love at First Fight by Carrie Aarons

3.5 STARS

Release Date: September 18, 2020

SYNOPSIS: This summer was supposed to be spent lounging on the beach, madly in love with my boyfriend. Until he decided to move to Singapore, and break up with me an hour before his plane left. Now I’m stuck in a Hamptons house share with six of his closest pals, including his best friend … who despises me. Since the moment Smith Redfield laid eyes on me, he’s hated my guts. I’m serious, I think the raven-haired restaurateur gets physically sick just being in my presence. And he’s never been shy about hiding that fact. There was the time he cackled when I landed face first in a pile of Manhattan trash bags. Or the night I tried to throw my ex-boyfriend a surprise party, and Smith had strippers crash the bash. Or maybe it was New Year’s Eve, when he got in my face and called me a sheltered goody two-shoes who wouldn’t know passion if it smacked me in the lips.

He’s rooming right next door for the summer months, and I don’t think more animosity could exist than in the hallway of our vacation rental. As if I wasn’t already sporting a bruised ego and broken heart from the way his best friend left me. But the more midnight run-ins we have, the more I can’t help but think about the way his mouth would feel against mine. With each heavy-eyed glance over the dinner table, I’m starting to wonder if the damaged alpha male doesn’t harbor more than just loathing towards me. After all, they say hate is the closest emotion to love. And with the way we’re skating that thin line, it’s bound to burn this whole house down.

REVIEW: When I saw this cover and read the synopsis, I just needed to have this book in my hands. Molly is Smith’s Best Friend’s Ex, which always adds a little spice to the mix. And I really appreciated how the author portrayed the Molly’s breakup with with her ex–which I think is key in making the dating a best friend’s ex work! He wasn’t malicious and there wasn’t a lot of drama, but it was done in a way where I fully supported Molly ending up with his friend. It was so fun getting to know both of these characters.

I really do enjoy an enemies-to-lovers romance, but sometimes when the two main characters are enemies they take it a little too far. That’s how I felt about Smith and even thought he had his reasons, I didn’t really like him for the first part of them book. I did appreciate how he realizes it won’t be so easy to start treating her better when he’s been treating her poorly for so long. Both Molly and Smith are dealing with their own issues and they play a big part in the interactions they share. The other thing I really appreciated about this story was the distinction between them as a couple in the Hamptons versus when they got back to their normal lives. It was another aspect that made this story more realistic. Overall, I’m glad I picked this one up!

REVIEW: This is why I make an exception to my “no duets” rule for Kennedy Fox! I love shorter books where I get to the HEA sooner, but this one was great. It is so fun seeing Maddie and Liam from the Roommates series in this one too! Gemma and Tyler just have this chemistry that I couldn’t get enough of in these books. Also, I’m just such a Tyler fan. He is loyal and caring and total book boyfriend material. We get this glimpse of Gemma and Tyler together in the beginning of the first book, but they were both so young. This book introduces us to adult Tyler and Gemma’s relationship and it is a great one. They just love each other so much! Everything about them just made me so invested in the story.

Between the reappearance of Victoria, and Gemma’s crazy ex-fiancé, I knew the usual Kennedy Fox drama was coming. And come it did. In the last quarter of this book SO much happened! I freakin’ love the wild ride and I cannot wait for the rest of this Ex-Con Series! Thank you to Kennedy Fox and Wildfire Marketing Solutions for the eARC in exchange for an honest review!

Begin Again by Jennifer Probst

Release Date: July 28, 2020

SYNOPSIS: Chloe Lake is finally living her dream. As the daughter of the Governor, she’s consistently in the spotlight, and after being dubbed the Most Eligible Bachelorette of NYC, both her career and personal life has exploded. Fortunately, her work as an advocate for animal welfare requires constant publicity and funding, so she embraces her role and plays for the camera—anything for the sake of her beloved rescues. But when a big case is on the line, she’s faced with the one obstacle she never counted on: the boy who broke her heart is back, and in order to gain justice, they need to work together. Chloe swears she can handle it until old feelings resurface, and she’s faced with a heartbreaking choice. Will this time end differently—or are they destined to be only each other’s first love—instead of forever?

Owen Salt fell hard for Chloe when he was a screwed-up kid in college, and spent the next years changing himself into the man his grandfather believed he was capable of. But when his career led him across the country, he knew he needed to leave the woman he loved behind. He’s never forgotten her, but as the new darling of the press, now, she’s way out of his league. When work brings him back to fight for justice by her side, he swears he can handle it. But he’s never really gotten over his first love—and he wants one more opportunity to prove he’s a man who’s worthy. Can Owen convince the woman who holds his heart to take a second chance on forever—or is it too late for them both?

Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series.

REVIEW: This was a cute second chance romance. When the male lead is super determined, but also genuine, it makes the story so much better. I really love the passion these two share, and getting a glimpse into their past when they visit the family and friends! For a novella These novellas are a good intro to a new author’s work, but I do think I would have liked this even more if I had read the series it was apart of. I may have to check out the other books in the Stay Series!

Release Date: April 3, 2020

SYNOPSIS: 𝗗𝘆𝗹𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝘁. 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗼𝘀. 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗼𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗮𝗸𝗲. 𝗜 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗺𝘆 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝘆𝗲𝗱. I’ve had a crush on Dylan St. Clair ever since he climbed into my bedroom window ten years ago. 𝘞𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘰𝘸, 𝘙𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘰. I was eleven, he was seventeen. A bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks with a chip on his shoulder and fresh bruises from his latest fight, he went on to play the starring role in all my teenage fantasies. But I always knew he was off-limits. So, over the years I gave up wishing and hoping we could ever be together. Until he kissed me on a cold beach one starry winter’s night. Until he said those five words that changed everything. 𝘐 𝘱𝘪𝘤𝘬𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳.

REVIEW

There is something about a man with a troubled past and good intentions. Dylan is a yummy bad boy and I was really excited to learn more about his depth throughout this story. As for Scarlett, she won me over when she interacted with Dylan the night he picked the wrong window. She stood up for what she thought was right and forged her own path and I love that about her. I think both of these characters were just really likable for me, so that made the story that much better. It’s like you just knew they are meant to be, but you just don’t know if they’re going to overcome all the obstacles. I’d definitely recommend this one!

Perhaps my gorgeous number-crunching husband simply wasn’t capable of the kind of passion I’d come to expect from my tattooed and testosterone-fueled ex-boyfriends. If I couldn’t have that kind of passion again in real life, I could at least write about it. Right? Nobody had to know. It would be my little secret.

Well, guess what? My husband found my journal.

And guess what else? He upped his game.

Soon I began testing the limits-crafting journal entries specifically designed to influence Ken’s behavior. For the most part, he responded beautifully…except for when he didn’t. And then I got the surprise of my life.

Was April rough for you too?

Okay, so April did not include any reading for me. Usually it is my go-to coping skill, but I haven’t been able to focus at all. With everything going on, changing my very hands-on job to a virtual platform, and my father passing away, I have been a hot mess in all honesty. I’m seriously waiting for the day when I pick up a book and get lost in it. Hopefully soon!

With all of this going on I haven’t been able to keep up on blog posts and ARCs, so I just wanted to showcase the amazing books I wanted to get to this past month. Kind of like a wrap up, but I didn’t read them all. Haha. So here are books that are DEFINITELY on my TBR!

Synopsis: Ryder Ever since she sat next to me in class and gave me death eyes, Willa Sutter’s been on my shit list. Why she hates me, I don’t know. What I do know is that Willa is the kind of chaos I don’t need in my tidy life. She’s the next generation of women’s soccer. Wild hair, wilder eyes. Bee-stung lips that should be illegal. And a temper that makes the devil seem friendly. She’s a thorn in my side, a menacing, cantankerous, pain-in-the-ass who’s turned our Business Mathematics course into a goddamn gladiator arena. I’ll leave this war zone unscathed, coming out on top…And if I have my way with that crazy-haired, ball-busting hellion, that will be in more than one sense of the word.

Willa Rather than give me the lecture notes I missed like every other instructor I’ve had, my asshole professor tells me to get them from the silent, surly flannel-wearing mountain man sitting next to me in class. Well, I tried. And what did I get from Ryder Bergman? Ignored. What a complete lumbersexual neanderthal. Mangy beard and mangier hair. Frayed ball cap that hides his eyes. And a stubborn refusal to acknowledge my existence. I’ve battled men before, but with Ryder, it’s war. I’ll get those notes and crack that Sasquatch nut if it’s the last thing I do, then I’ll have him at my mercy. Victory will have never tasted so sweet.

Cheerful, aggravating Spencer, who wants me to fetch her coffee. As if she’s the boss of me. And now I’m stuck sharing her office. Let’s face facts: I can’t be in a relationship; not when there’s a bet to win—not with Spencer, who loves my uncontrollable basset hound, lazy Sundays, and grilled cheese as much as I do. I refuse to fall for her.

I will be the last Bachelor standing.

REVIEW

This damn book. I loved every moment of it. Single parent romances are just so heartwarming, and this one even more so.

J. Daniels does such a good job at actually making the children characters that fuel the story. I fell in love with the kids, which made me so much more invested in the main characters and the interactions they had with each other’s children. It was impossible to not to feel for Nathan. And Jenna is just what he needs. There are some ups and downs, but not over the top drama which I also appreciated. I’m so very happy I picked this one up, and now I’m going to add the previous books in the Dirty Deeds series to my TBR!
