Hard Love by Sara Ney

5 STARS!!!

Release Date: November 19, 2020

SYNOPSIS: “HARD TO LOVE.” Hard head. Bad attitude. Terrible boyfriend. That’s what my exes have said about me—but I wasn’t serious about any of them, so what do I care what rumors they spread? What I need is to be left alone; by the press, by the paparazzi, and by women. Too bad I’m about to be surrounded by them for the weekend. My obnoxious, matchmaking brother is getting married, and he’s doing his damndest to find me a wedding date…
“HARD TO FIND.” That’s what they say about good men—they’re hard to find. Not that when I find one, I’ll be the type he’s looking for; too nice, too ordinary, too boring. My cousin is getting married, and her fiancé insists on throwing me at his brother. Cold, uncaring professional football player Tripp Wallace would never look twice at a woman like me. Too bad for both of us, I was wrong…

REVIEW: This was so different, but in a really good way! I had no idea what the characters were going to say, what they were going to do, how they were going to come together, how feelings were going to develop between them. Tripp was a fascinating male lead. I mean I love the Wallace family in general, they’re so inviting yes, theres always a ton of bickering between then all–it comes from a place of love. They definitely all have different personalities and Tripp and Trace are so very different. Tripp was very reminiscent of someone on the spectrum. He kind of says whatever he’s thinking without the realization that there are social niceties that we adhere to in order to not hurt other peoples feelings. This is honestly my favorite type person, as long as I have some heads up. Haha.

Chandler is also interesting because she’s in a similar position to Hollis when it comes to the family obligations. Although it was a little less delved into, other than knowing that she’s having difficulty finding her dream job, because the relationship between these characters ruled the story in the best way. I do like how both characters seem to kind of find themselves by interacting with each other. We get to witness better sides of both of them as they continue to get to know each other and develop a relationship. I just really enjoyed this one! Also, the little preview of True Wallace at the end was my cat nip, and I am so freaking excited for the next book, Hard Luck!!

Hard Fall by Sara Ney

5 STARS? ALL THE STARS!!!

Release Date: August 18, 2020

SYNOPSIS: “Hard Fall” That’s what my mom is always saying: “The bigger you are, the harder you fall.” She’s talking about love—I’ve never been in it myself, but that doesn’t stop me from secretly matchmaking for my friends. Who would suspect me, a world class athlete, of meddling in other people’s love lives? I love Love, especially when it’s not me who’s doing the falling…
“No Thanks.” That’s what Hollis Westbrooke said when I asked her on a date. Well, propositioned her, actually—but it was all a big joke; one she doesn’t think is funny. My stomach is in knots since I might actually like this girl so the joke is on me. Hollis’s father is my boss—and she doesn’t date players. The bigger they are, the harder they fall—especially when biggest player is me.

REVIEW: I knew Trace was going to be great, but WOW Sara Ney, just wow. Trace is everything. He’s so obnoxious, but as you get to know him it becomes so endearing. Sara Ney is so good at writing obnoxious characters that are hiding a heart of gold. Something I love about this series is that addresses the deeper emotions and whys beneath the stereotype—the downsides to being an athlete or having a lot of money. It just reminds the reader that there is more to each person that what meets the eye. I really appreciate that.

Okay, back to Trace. Meh definitely moved up my book boyfriend list. He will make you laugh and make you swoon! He’s just perfect for Hollis. She has some great qualities too. Working to support herself despite her family money and legacy in baseball. Her job as a book editor brings up some reader topics that made me as a reader feel at home. And just wait until you hear about Trace and books, swoony. I could possibly go on and on about this one, but I don’t want to give too much away. Let’s just say, I LOVED IT, and you need this book in your life right now!

Hard Pass by Sara Ney

5 STARS!

Release Date: June 16, 2020

SYNOPSIS: “Hard pass.” That’s what the last girl I slept with said when she got her first sober glimpse of me. She laughed, walked out of my penthouse—and I never saw her again. It doesn’t matter that I’m a rich, professional athlete; what mattered was my face. Beauty might only be skin deep for some—but I know better.

“Pay up.” That’s what the last girl I spoke to said over the phone when I made her an offer she couldn’t refuse. Desperate to sell a set of rare baseball cards, she’s clever and entertaining. I’m instantly smitten, but nowhere ready to reveal myself. Thank god she has no idea who I am—or what I look like. I’m a professional athlete–how hard can playing the love game be?

REVIEW: This is the Sara Ney from the first How to Date a Douchebag book that I absolutely love. I sat down with this book and did not stop until I was done! There is just something so endearing about a man who has seemingly everything, but is still insecure. Watching Noah and Miranda build a relationship, at first under false pretenses, and later as they grew to know each other in person, was so much fun. And let’s be honest Noah and Trace‘s relationship is hilariously awesome. I cannot wait for Trace’s book, Hard Fall coming September 8th!

Another thing I appreciated about this romance is how it’s about people with normal issues. Obviously Noah is a professional athlete, but his insecurities are just so human and something that many of us go through. The same way Miranda has her own insecurities to work through. And I absolutely love that he’s not supposed to be the super hot guy that everyone loves. It was just really refreshing and made it feel more realistic–like when you’re attracted to someone and there are things that you would usually find unattractive about other people, but on them you find attractive and you may even like about them or maybe even love about them. I feel like that’s exactly what this story so enjoyable for me. It was about about two people finding their person and loving everything about them even when other people were judging them or thinking that they weren’t pretty or cute.

Anyway, Sara Ney just really got me with this one and I even followed it up with a reread of her How to Date a Douchebag books because I needed more of her writing!

The Teaching Hours by Sara Ney

4 STARS!

Release Date: May 5, 2020

SYNOPSIS: Everyone says Rex Gunderson isn’t boyfriend material. Everyone says he isn’t serious enough. Everyone says he’s a joke. Rumor has it, the disgraced ex-manager of the wrestling team left campus with his tail between his legs.

But now Rex is back—nowhere near the douchebag he used to be—and ready to prove everyone wrong.

The leopard has changed his spots, and he’s about to become my dating coach.

REVIEW

This is a short story, originally published in the Team Player 2: A Sports Anthology, in September of 2019! We get glimpses of the obnoxious Rex in throughout the How to Date a Douchebag series, so I was super interested to see what Sara Ney would do with him. Hannah might be perfect for him. Haha! Their friendship was fun, and as usual, Sara Ney throws in some good laughs! This book just reminded me how much I loved this series and I’m happy we got to revisit this world.

Jock Road by Sara Ney

Release Date: September 5, 2019

SYNOPSIS

EAT. SLEEP. FOOTBALL.

Those are Jackson Jennings, Jr’s three mantras. His entire life, he’s been a trained athlete with only one end-game: the Pro’s. No girls. No parties. No alcohol.

EAT. SLEEP. FOOTBALL.

Repeat.

Every Friday night, Triple J cruises the strip on campus, bored, lonely and conditioned not to party. But the night he meets Charlotte Edmonds on the side of the road, he wonders if his three mantras will ever be enough.

BIG. DUMB. JOCK.

Charlie has no time for Jackson’s antics. Not when he’s stealing her food or teases her to no end, making her tingle in all the right places. But if she’s ever going to have a boyfriend, she’d choose one who isn’t a Neanderthal. One with manners and actual time to spend with her. Not a hulking man-child who cruises the strip at night, in his Big. Dumb. Truck.

THE BOOK

If you follow my reviews, or know me at all, you probably know that I LOVE Sara’s How to Date a Douchebag Series! This book has Sara’s trademark snark and some interesting characters. While I just didn’t like the main characters, I think a lot of people are going to love this one. It’s full of banter and laughs!
